Plain-language definitions of terms you will meet when buying an open plot around Hyderabad.

| HMDA | Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority |
| DTCP | Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Telangana |
| FCDA | Future City Development Authority, created 2025 |
| RERA | Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, and its state authority |
| EC | Encumbrance certificate |
| Link documents | Earlier deeds in the ownership chain |
| FTL | Full Tank Level of a lake |
| Buffer zone | Restricted area around a water body |
| LRS | Layout Regularisation Scheme |
| NALA | Conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural use |
| Assigned land | Government land given to landless families, usually not transferable |
| GPA | General Power of Attorney |
| RRR | Regional Ring Road |
| ORR | Outer Ring Road |
