Survey numbers and sub-divisions explained
Every piece of land is identified by a survey number. Understanding it helps you match documents to the ground.
A survey number identifies a parcel of land in a village’s revenue records. When a parcel is split, it gets sub-division numbers (for example 123/A or 123/1).
- The survey and sub-division numbers match across the sale deed, revenue records and layout approval.
- The extent in each document agrees.
- Neighbouring survey numbers are not government land or water bodies.
