Assigned land: why it is risky to buy
Land assigned by the government to landless families usually cannot be sold. How to spot it.
Assigned land is government land given to landless poor families on conditions that generally prohibit transfer. Telangana restricts such transfers by law.
- Check land classification in revenue records for “assigned” or similar entries.
- Ask the lawyer to trace how the land became private, if it was ever assigned.
- Be cautious of unusually low prices in villages with large assigned extents.
